What are the best fabrics for cozy outfits this winter?

Finding the right fabrics for cozy outfits can be a bit tricky, especially when comfort is key. Living in Chicago, I know how essential warm materials are during the cold months, but I also want to look good. This year, I’ve been trying out different fabrics to see which ones strike the best balance between warmth and style. For instance, cashmere blends are incredibly soft but can feel a bit delicate. Meanwhile, cotton and modal are breathable and easy to care for, though they might not always have that luxurious feel.

Layering has been on my mind too. The fabric choice for each layer can really change how an outfit wears and looks. I love throwing on a soft, oversized sweater over a sleek cotton turtleneck, but I sometimes find flannel can be a little bulky. What fabrics have you all found work best for keeping cozy? Any brands or pieces that you can’t live without for comfort?

Definitely check out fleece and merino wool! Fleece is super soft and warm without being too heavy, while merino keeps you cozy and is pretty stylish too. For layering, I like using a thin thermal top under my sweaters; it adds warmth without bulk. Brands like Uniqlo and Patagonia have some great options!

Wool is my go-to for winter coziness. It’s super warm without being too heavy, and you can find some nice blends that look stylish too. I really like merino wool for layering; it’s soft and doesn’t feel itchy like some other wool can. Ever tried that?
