How to Prevent Mould on Shoes in Humid Climates

I recently found some mould on a few pairs of my favorite shoes, and I’m quite frustrated. I keep my wardrobe tidy, so I’m a bit puzzled about how this could happen. Living in Vancouver, I know humidity can be high, but I didn’t realize it could have such a big impact on my footwear. It’s discouraging to think I might lose those unique vintage pieces I’ve worked hard to collect.

After some research, I’ve learned that moisture can accumulate in wardrobes, especially if they lack good ventilation. I’m thinking about adding silica gel packets or possibly a dehumidifier to the space. However, I’m also curious about other preventive measures I might take, such as the way I store my shoes or which materials could be better to avoid.
